Call for Playwrights To Submit 20 – 30 - minute Plays For 'Wake Up to Healing Arts: Using Performance and Media for Direction, Hope,Health and Total Well-being – ‘I Rise’”
Wake Up and Live’s Actors’ Studio (WUAL) is continuing its “Healing Arts” project. We are inviting playwrights to submit 20-30 -minute plays on the topic of Virtual and in-person bullying which can be performed on Cleveland area stages and YouTube.
Selected stories will depict mental health challenges the character faces, is overcoming, or has overcome, which allow him / her to now live an improved mental health life (like the Phoenix – “I Rise.”).
“Wake Up to Healing Arts” Submissions should:
Show how the performing arts (drama, vocal & instrumental music, dance, poetry) may be used to help address the bullying mental health issue in addition to / instead of clinical methods.
Submissions:
. 20 - 30- minute plays may have no more than 3 – 4 characters, with an emphasis on the people of color community, teens and females.
. Describe some mental health CHALLENGES the character has overcome, and / or is currently experiencing.
. Why the character wants to make changes
. Examples of topics which reflect mental health issues
. The stigma of mental health issues
. Teens and young adults’ suicide
. Teen pregnancy
. How using drama, music and dance can help heal mental health issues
. Issues contributing to mental health challenges: Depression; Anxiety; Loss of
income; Jobs; Family; Toxic Relationships; Domestic abuse; Bullying
IF Selected:
1. Plays will be performed on stage at Dunham Museum & Tavern, Sat. Sept. 28 & Sun. Sept. 29
and on “Wake Up And Live With the Arts” YouTube
2. Stipend will be paid.

Wake Up and Live’s Actors’ Studio (WUAL) is seeking Performing Artists for its “Healing Arts” project –in person & internet bullying . Inviting actors, singers, dancers, musicians, poets, etc. to submit a 1 – 2 minute video audition demonstrating their uplifting / inspirational performance genre.
Performances scheduled for Sat. Sept. 28 & Sun. Sept. 29 at Dunham Museum & Tavern, YouTube and “Wake Up and Live With the Arts” shows.
If selected, Stipend Paid.
